Igniting Curiosity Across Washington

At Pacific Science Center, we are dedicated to inspiring a lifelong interest in science, math, and technology. Our diverse education programs are a cornerstone of this mission, reaching thousands of learners across Washington each year.

Through hands-on experiences and interactive learning, we aim to ignite curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of the world around us. We support high-impact science education, with a focus on PreK-12th grades.

Let’s take a closer look at the profound impact of three of our education programs over the past school year: Science on Wheels, Digital Discovery Workshops, and Field Trips.

Bringing Science to You with Science on Wheels

Science on Wheels is our mobile science outreach program designed to bring the wonders of science directly to schools and communities. This year, we are proud to report that we have served an impressive 99,000+ learners over the last school year.

By traveling to communities big and small across the state, Science on Wheels ensures that every learner, regardless of geographic location, has access to high-quality science education. Our Outreach Educators drove 34,600+ miles in our vans, visiting towns from Spokane to Forks and Bellingham to Vancouver. That is equivalent to over two trips around the circumference of the Earth!

Our dedicated educators arrive with a van full of engaging exhibits, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on activities. These resources cover a wide range of scientific topics and align with Washington’s Next Generation Science Standards to support teachers’ curriculum.

From exploring the mysteries of outer space to understanding the principles of engineering, learners are immersed in a world of discovery. This program not only enhances their STEM knowledge but also ignites a passion for learning that can last a lifetime.

Having our students learn with hands-on materials, that most in our student population haven’t seen or experienced before, was invaluable. Watching students learn and explore and seeing them persevere through challenges and their exuberance at their success – there aren’t even words to describe what I’m feeling. Jes B. (Olympic Hills Elementary; PTA leader)

Learning online with Digital Discovery Workshops

Our Digital Discovery Workshops served 10,000+ learners this year, offering a unique opportunity to explore a variety of STEM topics from anywhere.

These live workshops offer a blend of virtual and hands-on experiences that cover topics such as ecology, chemistry, and astronomy. Youth learn to think critically, solve problems, and express their creativity in new and exciting ways.

This past year, we introduced an innovative approach to extend learning experiences beyond a single interaction. Our Digital Discovery Workshops are now offered as a paired experience with our Science on Wheels and Field Trip programs. This combination provides learners with a comprehensive and cohesive learning journey, reinforcing concepts and deepening their understanding.

We were impressed by the fun, interactive video content – it did a great job of engaging the kids and keeping them interested from beginning to end. Washington Librarian

Exploring Science Up Close with Field Trips

Field trips to Pacific Science Center are a time-honored tradition and unforgettable experience for learners. This year, we welcomed 32,000+ learners through our doors!

During these visits, learners delve into topics ranging from environmental science to physics and engineering. Our hands-on exhibits and live demonstrations provide a dynamic learning environment where learners can see scientific principles in action.

Field trips not only reinforce classroom learning but also inspire learners to ask questions and seek out new knowledge.

[Pacific Science Center] is such a valuable asset for our students and community. I cannot think of another place where the exposure to science is so approachable and creates such lasting experiences and memories. Thank you again for your generosity, it is a bright light felt through the dark challenges I face in as an educator. Vanessa K. (Highland Park Elementary Teacher)

Mapping Our Impact

Our education programs have reached learners far and wide. Here is a map showcasing the locations we visited and served over the past school year!

From community centers to rural schools, our programs have made a significant impact across Washington state. This visual representation underscores our commitment to providing accessible science education to all learners, regardless of their location.

The Ripple Effect of Our Programs

The impact of our education programs extends far beyond the numbers. By providing learners with access to high-quality science education, we are helping to cultivate curious minds.

These programs also play a crucial role in promoting equity in education, ensuring that all learners, regardless of background, have the opportunity to succeed in STEM fields.

This past year, we served 143,000+ learners through our outreach programs. Notably, 69% of these learners came from low-income groups around Washington State. Thanks to donors and institutional investors, we were able to provide these programs either completely free or at deeply discounted rates.

We are deeply grateful for the support of our community, partners, and donors, who make these programs possible. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of thousands of learners, empowering them with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
