Pacific Science Center Unveils “Spiders: From Fear to Fascination” Exhibition

SEATTLE, WA — Pacific Science Center (PacSci) is thrilled to announce the opening of Spiders: From Fear to Fascination, a captivating new exhibition created by the Australian Museum that transforms visitors’ perceptions of Earth’s most misunderstood creatures. Opening October 23, 2025, and running through April 2026, this immersive experience combines live and preserved spider specimens with large-scale models, interactive technology, and groundbreaking science.

Whether spiders inspire fear, fascination, or somewhere in between, this exhibition invites visitors to discover the remarkable world of arachnids that outnumber humans on our planet and play crucial roles in our ecosystem.

An Immersive Journey Through Seven Interactive Sections

The exhibition begins with an augmented-reality floor projection where virtual spiders scatter and respond to visitors’ movements, immediately drawing guests into the spiders’ world. From there, visitors embark on a journey exploring:

  • Spider diversity and family connections through interactive touchscreens and virtual reality experiences
  • Global spider distribution via a large-scale interactive map featuring video footage and little-known facts
  • Mating rituals and life cycles, including a playful spider dance-off where visitors imitate the male peacock spider’s elaborate courtship display
  • Sensory experiences that reveal how spiders hear, see, and communicate in ways vastly different from humans
  • Hunting techniques and venom, with hands-on activities testing visitors’ “spider agility” using different fang types
  • The amazing properties of spider silk, showcased through specimens including golden orb-weavers whose silk glistens in light

Science That Matters

Beyond entertainment, the exhibition highlights spiders’ potential contributions to human advancement. Spider venom and silk show promising applications in medicine, pesticides, and even clothing manufacture. Through myth-busting information and current scientific research, visitors gain a deeper appreciation for these often-feared neighbors.
