Wondering what type of weather is occurring around the globe at this moment? See Science On a Sphere, an astonishing piece of technology that uses computers and video projectors to display dynamic, animated images of the atmosphere, oceans and land on an illuminated, six-foot globe. Learn about complex environmental processes in an innovative and interactive way.

About

Science on a Sphere has the most current information about our planet. This exhibit uses over 400 datasets that track changes within the atmosphere, land and ocean, as well as datasets for astronomy, models and simulations. The datasets for this system are created by scientific institutions worldwide, including other science centers, museums and universities, as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA).

Make sure to see one of our interactive presentations covering extreme weather, climate change and geological and astronomical events. Discover the science behind hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanoes and other natural disasters. Science On a Sphere explains the “ingredients” of regional climate, the impact humans have had on our planet throughout history, and how oceans are formed and affect the Earth’s ecosystem.

Location

Science on a Sphere is located in Building 2 next to the Willard Smith Planetarium.
