Reflections on the 2025 Luncheon

A Celebration of Curiosity and Community

On May 13, over 400 community leaders and advocates gathered at Fisher Pavilion for Pacific Science Center’s 2025 Ignite Luncheon. Together, we raised more than $500,000 in support of our mission: to ignite curiosity in every child and fuel a passion for discovery, experimentation, and critical thinking in all of us.

Welcoming both longtime champions and new supporters from across Washington, this year’s luncheon served as a celebration of community, curiosity, and our shared commitment to making science accessible to all.

What is the Luncheon?

The Ignite Luncheon is PacSci’s largest annual fundraiser, convening civic leaders, philanthropists, educators, and innovators to enjoy a seated meal, hear from compelling speakers, and experience live-science demonstrations led by PacSci’s award-winning education team.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors—who fully underwrite the event—100% of the proceeds raised directly support our educational programs and outreach efforts.

From funding free and discounted field trips for students in underserved communities to providing scholarships for STEM summer camps and more, every dollar raised helps us break down barriers to science learning.

Words That Stay With Us

We were honored to have Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell as this year’s keynote speaker, who underscored the growing partnership between Pacific Science Center and Seattle Center.

His remarks highlighted our shared vision for an inclusive civic space where learners of all ages—and from every background—can access transformative science experiences.

We also heard from Dr. Shari Kaiser, Executive Director of Translational Research at Bristol Myers Squibb, who shared how early access to science opportunities shaped her path. Her remarks reminded us of the value science education brings:

“For some kids, the experiences here will be that spark that seeds the passion and drive for a life of science—no doubt. For others, these experiences may not lead to a career in science, but it will teach them to ask questions, think critically, and explore the world with curiosity.”

We’re honored that Dr. Kaiser joined us to speak not just on behalf of her organization, but from her own lived experience.

Closing the program, attendees hear from Pacific Science Center’s President and CEO, Will Daugherty, who shared powerful reflections on the broader importance of our work:

“We support this region’s innovation economy by expanding and diversifying the STEM workforce.  More broadly, we inspire the next generation to be curious and think critically in all areas of life. Curiosity and critical thinking are not only the foundations of science and innovation; they are also the foundations of a healthy economy and society.

As a nation, we are at a crossroads where we decide how hard we will fight for science, curiosity, and critical thinking. PacSci is committed to being a leader in that fight.”

Energized by our engaging speakers, their personal stories, and their impactful words, the attendees of this year’s luncheon helped to generate more philanthropic support than any of PacSci’s prior luncheons.

Looking Ahead

Supporters of the Ignite Luncheon will be invited to grow their relationship with PacSci, whether as members of our Igniter Donor Society, as returning corporate partners, and as advocates in the community who believe in the transformative power of curiosity.

But this is only the beginning.

While the luncheon marked a high point, it also launched us into an exciting new chapter.

With the momentum and resources from this event, we are pursuing initiatives that will not only shape the future of Pacific Science Center, but of science engagement in Seattle and beyond:

  • Building a world-class Maker & Innovation Lab at PacSci;
  • Removing the gates that separate our courtyard from Seattle Center, restoring public access with a beautiful new entrance;
  • Working with Seattle Center and others to preserve and restore our iconic courtyard while making it more accessible and sustainable;
  • Connecting all of these elements to establish PacSci as the portal between downtown and Seattle Center.

There is much to look forward to—and much to build—together.

We’re grateful to Mayor Harrell, our corporate partners, and every individual donor whose belief in our work fuels real impact. To all those who joined us, gave generously, provided event sponsorship, or shared in the moment from afar- thank you. You are the spark that keeps curiosity alive for generations to come.
