Celebrating Engineering Day at Pacific Science Center

A Day of Innovation & Volunteer Impact!

Engineering Day at Pacific Science Center was one of our busiest events of the year!

Guests explored how engineering shapes our world through interactive exhibits, workshops led by corporate volunteers, and a panel with local engineers.

Bridges, Bots, and Beyond

Engineering truly makes the world go round, and we had the opportunity to showcase the many ways engineering is essential to keeping us safe, connected, and more.

Guests explored how geotechnical engineering prepares land for development, how structural engineering ensures buildings are built to last, how solar energy drives sustainability, how programming and connectivity fuel computer engineering, how magnets and plastics empower creation, and more!

Plus, we had a blast! The activities were fun and interactive, encouraging guests to dive in (literally, as Seattle Universal Math Museum showed up with a ball pit) and become engineers themselves. We hope this event served as an inspiration for guests who are curious to learn how they can start their journey into engineering.

Built on Passion: Thank you to our volunteers

This event was made possible by contributions from volunteers from amazing corporations and community organizations. The ability for guests to interact with professionals in these spaces added so much value to this event.

Thank you to our volunteers from ASCE, AWS Skill Center, Best Buy, The Boeing Company, Bristol Myers Squibb, Puget Sound Energy, Seattle Universal Math Museum, Sphere Solar Energy, and STEM Pals!

“This was a fun event! I enjoyed meeting so many bright future engineers and talking to them about my research.” Event Volunteer

Engineering Your Own Path – A conversation about belonging

We had the privilege of hosting Luzdary Ruelas from Bristol Myers Squibb and Deborah Williams from AWS Skills Center for a conversation on our Live Science Stage about their efforts to inspire more people to pursue technical roles.

Luzdary shared the story of her unique path into this career and highlighted how there are many ways to make an impact in STEM, no matter your background.

They also spoke about the importance of mentorship, community and diverse perspectives to make engineering stronger.

This discussion was about more than just engineering, it was about belonging.

It was an inspiring lesson for the audience that engineering and technical careers are accessible, and anyone with curiosity, critical thinking, and a drive for problem solving can make a difference in this field.

Special Guest Appearance: Mars Rover Rollin’ In

Paulo Younse joined our event with a replica Mars Rover that wow-ed the audience!

Guests volunteered to act as the rocky surface of Mars by lying down and watching the Rover maneuver over them with ease. It was a creative way to witness – and literally feel – the power of robotics!
