Beyond the Summer Season

Camps for Curious Minds isn’t just a summer event. Behind the scenes, the full-time team collaborates with education and outreach staff to align camp content with Pacific Science Center’s mission. They ensure our camp themes and activities stay fresh, exciting, and relevant to young learners.

In addition to summer camps, the team works with community partners, hosts off-season workshops, and participates in STEM-focused events around the region. This commitment to year-round impact makes Camps for Curious Minds a leader in informal science education.

A Pathway to Lifelong Learning

For many seasonal staff, Camps for Curious Minds is more than just a summer job—it’s an opportunity to explore careers in education, science communication, and youth development.

Some staff members even return as full-time employees, bringing their passion and expertise to future camp seasons!

Meet the Team!

The magic of Camp for Curious Minds wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated full-time staff who work tirelessly to design engaging experiences and keep everything running smoothly. From curriculum development to operations, they ensure every detail is handled with care.

Here’s a glimpse into the people who make it all happen!

Yesenia S. (she/her), Camps for Curious Minds Manager

Yesenia S. is the Camps for Curious Minds Manager, bringing together her love for education and the outdoors to create safe, inspiring spaces for campers. With a family background in education, she’s passionate about offering programs that spark curiosity and equip campers with valuable STEM skills. Yesenia is currently expanding the camp offerings, including a new outer space-themed camp and enhancing programming at Mercer Slough, ensuring that campers leave with both a sense of wonder and the tools to explore the world.

Outside of work, Yesenia enjoys arts and crafts and loves seeing campers’ creativity flourish. She’s also passionate about sharing local science, especially regarding Orca pods in the area. Behind the scenes, she ensures every camp is not only fun but also safe, helping nurture young minds and foster growth in STEM.

Indigo M. (she/her), Education and Camps Program Supervisor

Indigo is the Education and Camps Program Supervisor, where she merges her love for science and teaching. Starting as a 16-year-old PacSci volunteer, Indigo has grown into a leader who thrives in the dynamic, ever-evolving world of STEM. She is currently developing a math-focused summer camp and working on hiring plans for the upcoming summer season.

Indigo’s favorite activities include leading space camps and teaching campers about constellations, as well as doing live science demonstrations with dry ice. Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, hiking, dancing, and participating in French Club. She is proud to be part of a program that leaves a lasting impact on campers, inspiring them to share their newfound knowledge.

Shae S. (he/ him), Exhibit, Education, and Outreach Supply Supervisor

Shae has over a decade of experience in camps, combining his love of science, education, and fun. Growing up surrounded by animals and studying biology, he enjoys keeping the atmosphere playful while working with kids.

Shae’s favorite activity is squid dissections, which he learned in college and now shares with campers. Each summer, he buys 200-250 squids to make the experience memorable!

He’s also involved in developing the new “Froggy’s Wetland Adventure” camp and preparing supplies for the next season. Shae believes Camp for Curious Minds fosters curiosity and excitement for STEM. He enjoys it when he gets to see returning campers excited about what they’ve learned. Outside of work, he enjoys chores, watching TV, and hanging out with friends.

Nick G. (he/him), Camps Content Specialist

Nick is passionate about teaching, inspired by family members in education. After studying chemistry and working at Pacific Science Center, he discovered his passion for informal education. His favorite camp theme is ChemLab, where campers guide their own experiments. Nick is also developing new camps, including a middle school space camp focused on the Artemis project and a computer science camp to build early problem-solving skills.

Nick believes that informal STEM education teaches important life skills like collaboration and empathy. Outside of work, he enjoys hanging out with friends, playing video games, and visiting local board game shops. Nick is thrilled when campers engage with the activities he designs, and he finds his job to be both fun and impactful.

Carson T. (she/her), Camps Coordinator

Carson is the Camps Coordinator, having joined the team in 2024 after teaching in environmental education centers. Carson’s favorite activity is taking middle schoolers on canoe trips at Mercer Slough, where a memorable moment happened when campers saw a river otter chasing ducks. She’s currently reviewing and updating the environmental camp content and preparing the canoes for next summer.

Carson believes Camps for Curious Minds helps learners see the connections between STEM and the environment, opening doors to future possibilities. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors, whether hammock camping, paddleboarding, or tide pooling. Carson appreciates the fun, creative, and camper-centered approach at Camps for Curious Minds, where the team’s supportive environment inspires her.
