Insights and Discoveries

Throughout camps, learners engaged in a variety of hands-on activities and immersive experiences, gaining valuable knowledge and skills that will stay with them long after the camps have ended. Here are just a few of the things they learned:

  1. Understanding the Human Impact on Oceans: Campers in “Turning Tides” and “Climate Cove” learned about sustainability, citizen science, and the importance of protecting our oceans from human-caused climate change.
  2. Exploring Winter Science: In camps like “Winter Wetland” and “Hidden Bears and Snowshoe Hares,” campers delved into the properties of snow and ice, discovering the unique challenges and opportunities of winter in the Pacific Northwest.
  3. Adapting to Arctic Conditions: At “Arctic Adventures” camp, campers explored the remarkable adaptations of Arctic animals and learned about the traditional knowledge and survival skills of native Inuit peoples.
  4. Building Engineering Skills: Campers in “Plant Pals” and “Arctic Adventures” had the chance to build model boats, igloos, and more, honing their engineering skills and creativity.
  5. Fostering Environmental Stewardship: Across all camps, campers developed a deeper appreciation for the natural world and gained a sense of responsibility for protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity.
Throughout the week, campers in Turning Tides learned about ocean science and created boats to go along with that. They added an element to their boats each day that represented what they learned about and got to set sail in the PacSci ponds!

Looking Ahead to Summer
