Science & a Movie: Volcanoes of the Deep Sea

May 10

Join Pacific Science Center for a day celebrating the National Science Foundation with a special screening of Volcanoes of the Deep Sea, a stunning IMAX film by the Stephen Low Company. Dive 12,000 feet below the surface to explore deep-sea life, follow scientists on a real-life mystery in search of an ancient species, and journey from the surface to the ocean depths—all in one epic adventure.

A team of researchers featured in the upcoming giant-screen produced by the Stephen Low Company with support from the National Science Foundation film, Born in the Abyss, will also join us for the event. The film follows college students and career scientists aboard the Alvin submersible as they investigate how microscopic marine larvae sustain life in some of the planet’s most extreme environments.

The researchers will share their experiences and answer guest questions in a panel discussion that includes a sneak peek of the new film. Between screenings, they’ll also be on the main exhibit floor leading hands-on activities—including a rare opportunity to observe living marine larvae up close.

Please note the featured film is rated G, this presentation is recommended as best for guests ages 5 and up.
