Teacher Education/Washington State LASER

The Latest News From Washington State LASER

Who We Are
The Washington State Leadership and Assistance for Science Education Reform (LASER) program is a public/private partnership using a collaborative model for being a catalyst for sustainable innovation and improvement in K-12 science education. As a public/private partnership effort, Washington State LASER is an "opt in" program that provides financial support, professional development and technical assistance to individual classroom educators, building administrators, schools, school districts and to consortia's of school districts, called LASER Alliances.

Washington State LASER helps its partners initiate, implement and sustain science education improvement efforts. Although based on a distributed leadership model, the day-to-day stewardship of the partnership is provided by Battelle, operators of the U. S. Department of Energy's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Pacific Science Center. These two entities work closely with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).

Regional leadership is provided by a network of 9 alliances led and supported by business, education and research organizations. These include ESD 101, ESD 105, ESD 112, ESD 113 (with North Thurston School District), ESD 123 (with Kennewick School District and PNNL), ESD 171, ESD 189, Puget Sound ESD (with Tacoma School District), and the Institute for Systems Biology-Center for Inquiry Science.
