Parents' Night Out
Kids-Only Evenings of Fun and Discovery!
Pacific Science Center offers Parents' Night Out events all year round. Spend a night out (or in!) while your child enjoys private, after-hours exploration of our exhibits, hands-on activities, and a live science, planetarium or laser light show.
Your child will enjoy a light snack upon arrival and a science-themed treat later in the evening. Participants will be supervised in age groups by our outstanding and experienced staff all evening. When you come back for pick-up, be prepared for enthusiastic stories about the evening's activities.
Take a journey to the wild west to pan for "gold" as we explore the California Gold Rush. Find out what it takes for a cactus to survive in the dry desert and how scorpions glow in the cloak of darkness. Wrangle up your friends for some liquid nitrogen ice cream and a live science show on the Pacific Science Center ranch.
September 20: Bridge the Gap - REGISTER NOW
Draw up a plan and explore the structural possibilities of bridge building. Collaborate on engineering challenges to discover tension and compression while testing the strength of various materials. Use your design skills to construct a bridge that can withstand the force of gravity, then hang up your hard hat for a delicious liquid nitrogen treat and private laser show.
October 18: Mystery at the Museum - REGISTER NOW
It's been over 50 years since the 1962 World's Fair at Pacific Science Center, and a major discovery has just taken place. A message was hidden among the exhibits, and we need your help to uncover the mystery. Spend the evening hunting for clues in our exhibits and analyzing your findings back in the lab. Search for secrets among the stars in the planetarium and reveal invisible signs to crack the code. As a reward for closing the case, enjoy a scoop of liquid nitrogren ice cream!
November 15: Swimming with Sharks - REGISTER NOW
Sharks invade Pacific Science Center for a night of sharp teeth and fin frenzy. Spend the evening exploring some of the largest fish in the sea. Investigate fossilized teeth and discover how sharks are able to detect blood in the water from miles away. Experience a live science show and sink your teeth into some liquid nitrogen ice cream.
December 6: Glow Factor - REGISTER NOW
Light up the night! Explore the properties of phosphorescence and fluorescence as your chemistry experiements shine in the dark! You'll discover how glo-sticks work and concoct your own glow-in-the-dark playdough. Be dazzled by the lights at a private laser show and top off the night by dipping into some glowing fruit sorbet.
NEW! Parents' DAY Out
Did you know that chocolate actually comes from a fruit? Learn about the origins of chocolate and its amazing journey from seeds on a farm to sweet treats from experts. Use measurement and chemistry to create a chocolate treat of your own and pair this concoction with a well-balanced lunch. Go on a botanical garden hunt for Pacific Science Center's live cacoa tree in our exhibits and experience an educational IMAX film on the big screen.

- Drop-off: 5:30-6:30 p.m.
- Pick-up: 10-11 p.m.
- Cost: $40 per child, or $30 for Pacific Science Center members
- Transfer/Cancellation Policy: There is a $10 processing fee per child for transfers to another Parents' Night Out date. There are no refunds.
Online pre-registration is required for all Parents' Night Out events.
You will need to fill out a one-time medical liability form that is valid for all Parents' Night Out events through December 2014. Have the following available when you register:
- Emergency contact name and phone
- Child's insurance information
- Child's medications/dosages/prescribing physician's name
