Break Camps at Mercer Slough

PICK-UP & DROP-OFF
 
Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center is a full campus with various small buildings connected by a series of walkways. (see campus map pdf)
 
Morning Drop-Off takes place from 8:45 - 9 a.m. in the turn-around for camps in Licorice Fern and Salmonberry classrooms, and in the North parking lot for camps in Dragonfly or Pond Lily classrooms. On Monday, please park and walk your child to his or her classroom. Other days, teachers will be waiting on the sidewalk for curb-side drop-off.
 
Afternoon Pick-Up takes place from 3:45 - 4 p.m. in the same location as drop-off. If you forget your Kid Code, you must show photo identification. We allow a 10-minute grace period for picking up your camper; then your child will be placed in extended day care for a $12 fee due upon arrival.
 
Kid Code: At pick-up we will ask for the Kid Code you chose at registration. This code functions as a password; share it only with anyone authorized to pick up your child. This is a security measure to ensure all campers leave with authorized adults. Camp staff will release campers only to those who know the Kid Code or who show photo identification that matches names listed on the medical form. If you forget your Kid Code before camp begins, ask a teacher when you drop off your child on the first day of camp.

ATTENDANCE
 
We expect children to attend each day of their camp (except for illness) and to arrive and depart at the scheduled time.
 
Children arriving late or leaving early must be escorted by camp staff. Parents must wait for camp staff; this process can take over 15 minutes. If you plan to pick up early, notify your child's teacher in advance and pick up your child before 3 p.m. After this time, camp staff may be unavailable to escort your child.
 
Late arrival and early pick up are disruptive to the entire camp as many of our activities are cumulative and group-based. Please avoid scheduling appointments and other activities during the camp day.

WHAT TO BRING TO CAMP
 
Our camps spend a large portion of each day outside. Make sure your child is prepared for cold and wet weather and that all items are labeled with your child's name.
  • Large sack lunch
  • 2 snacks
  • Water bottle
  • Weather appropriate clothing
  • Waterproof jacket or poncho
  • Shoes or boots that can get wet and muddy and are comfortable for hiking
  • Warm hat
  • Full change of clothes and shoes in a labeled bag (Bring on first day, to be left on-site for the week)
  • Sunglasses
  • Any medications listed on your medical form. Please give medications to camp staff on the first day of camp.
  • Day Pack for lunch, water, snacks and any other daily needed items
Please do not send any valuables with your child to camp. Valuables include, but are not limited to: money, hand-held games or musical devices, pocket knives and cell phones. 
EXTENDED DAY CARE
 
Morning extended day care is not available for break camps.
 
Afternoon extended day care is available until 6 p.m for $55 per week, or $12 daily. For unplanned extended day care, please inform the teacher in the morning and pay with cash or check when picking up your child. Please drop off and pick up your camper in the Licorice Fern classroom in the building nearest to the Tree House. 
CANCELLATIONS & TRANSFERS 
 
Cancellation Policy: Requests for withdrawal from camp must be received at least two weeks before camp start date. For week long camps a $100 processing fee will be retained per camp. For two-day camps 50% of the registration cost will be retained. No refunds will be given within two weeks of the camp start date.
 
Transfer Policy: To transfer sessions, call (206) 443-2925. There will be $20 processing fee per transfer. This excludes transfers resulting from openings on our camp waiting list, which are free of charge. Requests for transfers must be made at least one week prior to camp start date.

CODE OF CONDUCT
 
Pacific Science Center is committed to providing a welcoming, safe and fun environment for all campers. Proper supervision and appropriate behavior are key components to a successful camp experience. In an effort to provide all campers with a safe and fun atmosphere, it is important that all campers exhibit respect for themselves, fellow campers, staff and the camp environment at all times.
 
Every camp session, camp staff and campers review and discuss procedures, structure and behavior expectations. Camps are asked to be respectful of other campers, staff and materials. Inappropriate, disruptive and/or violent behavior will not be tolerated. Examples of inappropriate behavior include, but are not limited to: fighting, name-calling, foul language, arguing, bullying, leaving the group or possessing weapons.
 
Minor behavioral problems will be addressed by camp staff. If behavior issues persist, parents or guardians will be contacted to work towards a resolution. If a camper's behavior continues to disrupt the camp or endangers the physical or emotional safety of themselves or others, Pacific Science Center reserves the right to cancel that individual's camp enrollment for a day or more with no refund.
